This guide is being created reflecting on the confusion of how the new system works.
What is 'Divide and Conquer'?This is the nickname of the new system. This system enables PVP nearly everywhere in LoneScape, but somewhat restricted at an extent. Read further.
The only time the following rules come in effect is ONLY when you're in a Divide and conquer area.
Now how does it work?
Name colorThe amount of PK penalty you have determines your name color, and your name color determines if you drop items in Divide and Conquer areas or not. The following name colors correspond to the following.
NOTE: You can check your PK penalty at any time on the quest tab.
You gain 10 PK points by killing players that are not blinking blue (Read further to learn about blinking blue players)
Your PK Points go down by 1 point every 5 minutes.
Normal named (Under 30 PK penalty)In the case of right clicking, white named.
In the case of names above head,
When you're normal named, you will not loose items other than a few coins when dieing in Divide and Conquer.
Red named (30 PK penalty or above)When you're red named there is a chance you will drop a random item if you are killed by another player in Divide and Conquer.
Black named (100 PK penalty or above)When you're black named you will have a bigger chance of loosing items on death and will be sent to the Jail (Read further) if you are killed in Divide and Conquer.
Blinking blue nameYou will blink blue when you attack another player that is NOT blinking blue. This is the only case of name colors that your PK penalty does not effect. When you're name is blinking blue, any player can kill you without gaining penalty (Read further), and any player that attacks you will not blink blue.
You will stop blinking blue after 30 seconds of not being in combat.
That covers names colors.
PK GuardsThese specialized guards help keep the peace by attacking any players that are blinking blue named whom are within 10 squares in range. They will also attack a variety of NPCs that come in range as well. These guards WILL one hit anything that is detected. They attack very quickly, and may event teleport to you upon attack.
Attacking PK guards will cause your name to blink blue.
PK JailAny black-named players that are killed in a Divide and Conquer area will be sent to the PK Jail, and will not be able to leave until their PK penalty descends to 99 (Red named), or if they pay bail. The bail cost depends on the player's PK Penalty, and paying the bail will not remove any PK penalty.
The PK Jail is a Safe PvP area. You will not gain PK Points or PK Penalty by killing other players in this area.
There is a bank booth in the PK Jail.
You can also visit the PK Jail by talking to the guard in Falador.
GhostWhen you die, you may turn into a ghost before you respawn. Your actions are limited when you're a ghost. After 20 seconds of being a ghost you will respawn at the nearest spawnpoint.
PK ModesPK Modes are only made to help prevent yourself from mis-clicking. Think of this as a safety on a gun.
Your PK mode can be changed on the quest tab.
PK modes only take effect in Divide and Conquer areas. Keep in mind that your PK mode does NOT protect you from being attacked, as this seems to be a common assumption to a lot of players.
Peace modeThis mode just disables the attack option on players altogether. You can only attack NPCs.
Capture modeThis is the default PK mode. In this PK mode you can only attack blinking blue players and NPCs. As long as you stay on this PK mode you are safe from blinking blue.
PK modeIn this PK mode you can attack all players and NPCs. This is not recommended.
Area typesYou're not always in a Divide and Conquer area. Some areas are safe areas, and some are dangerous areas.
The types of areas are:
Safe
Safe PvP
Divide and Conquer
Dangerous PvM
Wilderness
You can see what type of area you're in by looking on the Quest tab. Be sure to check it often, cause it can change when you go to different places. To read about what that area means, Click on the text that says it.
